MLBA

The Minnesota Livestock Breeders’ Association has always paid particular attention to the encouragement and guidance of youth. Numerous programs and projects for Minnesota’s youth are conducted and financially supported by the Association. Below are four different scholarships that are provided each year to young people who are interested in pursuing college educational careers in livestock and related livestock enterprises.

Scholarship applications will be updated in late January every year after the MLBA Board Meeting. Please check back then for the current year’s application.

MLBA Scholarship

In 2024, $750 MLBA scholarships were awarded to:

  • Lucas Ruen, Lanesboro
  • Wyatt Glessing, Waverly
  • Lilly Ostlie, Benson
  • Sadie Sullivan, West Concord

In 2024, $500 MLBA scholarships were awarded to:

  • Ava Schoenfeld, Lake Benton
  • Kevin Casper, Graceville
  • Brennir Ptereson, Gibbon
  • Shelby Swanson, Hutchinson

MLBA Scholarship Guidelines:

  • Awarded to an outstanding present or former 4-H or FFA high school senior, entering an agricultural college for their first year, at either:
    • University of Minnesota, St. Paul;
    • University of Minnesota, Crookston;
    • University of Wisconsin, River Falls;
    • South Dakota State University;
    • North Dakota State University;
    • or Iowa State University.
  • Must be pursuing a college education in which a major emphasis is on animal agriculture.
  • Scholarships must by claimed within one year of awarding.
  • Application must be received by March 1.

McKerrow Scholarship

In 2024, the $500 McKerrow scholarship was awarded to Katelyn Radman, Randolph, MN


McKerrow Scholarship Guidelines:

  • Awarded to a present or former 4-H member who is entering his or her sophomore, junior, or senior year at either:
    • University of Minnesota, St. Paul;
    • University of Minnesota, Crookston.
    • University of Wisconsin, River Falls;
    • South Dakota State University;
    • North Dakota State University;
    • or Iowa State University.
  • Must be a resident of Minnesota and majoring or minoring in Animal Science.
  • A student may be awarded the McKerrow scholarship only once.
  • The above stipulations are dictated by the terms of the agreement covering the trust of the McKerrow Scholarship Fund.
  • Scholarships must by claimed within one year of awarding.
  • Application must by received by March 1.

Lyle Lamphere Scholarship

In 2024, the $750 Lyle Lamphere scholarship was awarded to Megan Ratka, Cold Springs, MN


Lyle Lamphere Scholarship Guidelines:

  • Awarded to a student who will be a college junior or senior or first year graduate student at the:
    • University of Minnesota;
    • University of Wisconsin;
    • North Dakota State University, Fargo;
    • South Dakota State University, Brookings;
    • Iowa State University, Ames;
    • or Michigan State University, East Lansing.
  • Must be a resident of Minnesota or Wisconsin and majoring in Agriculture specifically in the fields of Animal Science, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Business, or Agricultural Education.
  • A student may be awarded the Lamphere scholarship only once and cannot be awarded the McKerrow scholarship in the same year.
  • The above stipulations are dictated by the terms of the agreement covering the trust of the Lamphere Scholarship Fund.
  • Scholarships must by claimed within one year of awarding.
  • Application must by received by March 1.
